Hidden gems next to a busy city
Starting from the location and reservation all the way to gastronomical events were perfect.
As mentioned , this a “hidden gems in a quiet setting “and owners are orchestrating the whole operation by being there constantly.
Since, it is a rural area during the winter months the whole area should furnish with security cameras and or security guards.
The other unsecured point was the fire alarm in the room was covered with plastic for not sending smoke signals.
Rooms should be equipped with fire alarm in working condition before it was given to the costumer not AFTER!
Especially, in the middle of the FOREST and far away from the habited areas fire alarm and security became more vital.
After all this missing points taken into IMMEDIATE consideration I might like to go there even for holiday.

Caution: wedding hotel!
If you want to visit this hotel, you should not expect to sleep peacefully - according to the hotel manager, this is a "wedding hotel".
To clarify: We visited the Hotel Darstein last weekend (September 22-24, 2023) in a group of 5 people (3 rooms). The rooms were booked in October last year.
My wife and I were informed by email on September 17th (a week before arrival) that a wedding was taking place in the hotel and that it might be a bit loud. (The other two parties in the group were not informed). That would have been fine so far.
The fact was, however, that 2 weddings took place in parallel on Friday evening and the next wedding was on Saturday. Very loud music was played until 3 a.m., which could also be heard on the 2nd and 3rd floors due to the thin walls of the building and the very loud bass. In addition, on Sunday morning at around 7 a.m. there was some moving around (banging and pushing tables, etc.) that was absolutely impossible to ignore.
When we checked out, we announced that we were not satisfied with our stay overall and that we had hardly slept a wink during the 2 nights we were there.
The manager (Ms. Darstein) then explained to us that we had been informed about the noise beforehand by email and that the hotel was a "wedding hotel" and that the hotel had therefore provided its service and was fully justified in doing so.
Unfortunately, I see it a little differently - you go to a hotel to sleep and if you can't sleep because of the noise, the service is definitely diminished. In addition, it was certainly known more than a week in advance that there were weddings taking place that weekend, so they could have informed us more than 7 days in advance. In my opinion, they informed us so late on purpose so that we had no chance of rebooking and finding something else.
In this case, at least a price reduction would have been justified, as the booked service (overnight stay) was only provided to a limited extent. At €197 for a double room (including breakfast), there would have been some leeway. But the hotel manager objected vehemently and rather unfriendly.
Otherwise, the rooms were very clean and well-kept. The food was good - but the menu was fairly straightforward and somewhat unimaginative. The staff were very friendly and helpful overall - Vanessa in the service department in particular saved the first evening with her friendliness.
But as I said, if you want to sleep at night, you'd better go somewhere else.

2 days of bliss with nature
This is around 14kms from central Mannheim. A place where you find yourself surrounded lakes, greenery & a beach too. Food is awesomely tasty. Staff very polite. Rooms are very clean. Found everything perfect.
I think they also organise weddings, so go ahead & chose this place if you are planning one.

Haven't visited yet, but the booking and information process is excellent!
The staff is very helpful in giving additional information about the hotel, its facilities and things to do in the area; this even before arrival so you can well prepare your stay.

Outstanding location, service, charm and food!
A family run hotel situated in a quiet beautiful location adjacent to a picturesque lake. First impressions of the Hotel is that of a modern facade yet not discarding its' traditional regional German character.
The Hotel is very well maintained - as are the grounds and outside areas.The rooms are immaculately clean and functional.
The staff are extremely pro-active in assisting and attending to their guests.
The restaurant lists an extensive range of local and international food. I had some absolutely incredibly tasty food in the restaurant. The locals certainly knew about the restaurant too! Always a good indicator of the food quality!
A great hotel coupled with great staff and exceptional food.
