Two night stay at the Lugger Hotel, Portloe, cornwall
Well we located the Lugger Hotel back in Jan 2025 and booked a stay 28th March for two nights, from the moment we walked into the reception we were treated like two special people, the lady on the reception was lovely and very thoughtful, the waiter and waitresses in the mornings & evening were again very professional and happy, which these days counts for a lot.
Breakfast & Evening meals were amazing, credit to the Chef & kitchen staff.
The rooms were lovely and typical of a coastal retreat,
Thankyou to all and will be returning in the near future ;-)

A new favourite
I had a night away with my miniature poodle, Layla. We had a wonderful time and everyone was so welcoming and made a fuss of Layla. What a perfect location for trips to the beach, delicious food and comfortable room. A little gem and will definitely be returning and recommending to friends and family.

Beautiful place in many ways but some aspects a bit disappointing.
Beautiful location and lovely staff but there were a few things amiss. Our bedroom had ants in it and also a rather unsavoury smell which was not well disguised by an aroma air freshener. We also felt the bedroom was rather cramped and not well arranged. The food was on the whole lovely but I had fish in both starter and main courses ands it was overcooked. As fish is supposed to be a speciality of the Lugger, this was disappointing and although I mentioned it to two members of staff it was never mentioned again and there was no response. This is a special place in many ways though but mainly because of its outstanding location.

A hidden Cornish gem.
What better place to spend a few days!
This classic hotel, with the friendliest of staff is a little gem - worth the trip down twisting narrow Cornish lanes to The Lugger overlooking one of the prettiest bays you could wish to find. Three fishing boats on the slipway and the Lugger dining room windows looking out over the most fantastic views you can imagine. Our room was well equipped and faultless with every facility you needed - and a comfortable bed for a good night's sleep. The menu changes nightly and there could be several fish specials, mussels in season plus lobster or crab if you give 24 hours notice. A good range of starters and excellent sweets if you can find room with portions on the generous side. There are many houses and gardens (including Hellidon) within easy reach and the King Charles ferry across a tributory of the Fal river is well worth the trip. A special mention of the excellent well trained, very professional and very polite staff serving throughout the day from breakfast through to dinner. Excellent variety of freshly cooked breakfasts available. The Lugger is not cheap, but we certainly got what we paid for. Arrive early in the season as parking is tight - or leave in an open car park ast the top of the village.

Good but 5 Star?
We recently had a 2 night stay - Friday and Saturday nights.
The location - down country lanes to a small harbour, typically Cornish and spot on. The car park is tight but not impossible. The is nothing in the village apart from the pub 2 minutes walk away. There is no beach as such.
The greeting on arrival was professional and we were showed to our room and offered help with our bags.
The room was clean, (no bath robes) but could do with an update/re-fresh. Bathroom mirror was showing signs of age and bathroom door appeared grubby but it is painted matt white which shows any marks up, maybe lose the bath and have a shower only as once stood in the bath I couldn't get under the shower (I'm 5'8"). Headroom is limited but it's an old Cornish cottage style building so wouldn't expect anything else. The floor squeaks terribly as did the floor in the room above us.
We only had breakfast on both days, the "Full Cornish" was spot on, no complaints there. The restaurant menu looked expensive (fish & chips £31) and everything, menu & bar, has a "discretionary" 12.5% service charge which makes your £16 cocktail £18!
I think the bar is bottle only, couldn't see any beer pumps. The Ship Inn offers better VFM.
For us, although the staff were excellent, The Lugger didn't seem to offer us any atmosphere or "vibe" I don't know what people expect for 5 star but for us The Lugger is excellent 3 star or OK 4 star.
